UNESCO – 75 years

The UNESCO Chair of the RANEPA actively participated in the event dedicated to the anniversary of UNESCO. During the year, teachers of the department participated in the work of International and Russian scientific conferences, discussions on topical issues of the Organization’s activities.

Among the events that took place at the final stage, I would like to note the following.

On November 16, the Russian State Library, with the support of the UN Information Center, hosted a “round table” “75 years of UNESCO: achievements in education, science and culture for the benefit of peace and the well-being of peoples”.

Participants – heads and specialists of libraries, centers of legal and other socially significant information; representatives of state authorities, state and public organizations; educational institutions and other stakeholders – discussed issues related to various aspects of education, research carried out on the conservation of cultural monuments, information about the activities of UNESCO, etc.

Congratulating the participants of the “round table” on the significant date, he emphasized the importance of the work of the Center for Documents of International Organizations of the Department of Official and Normative Publications of the Russian State Library, as a holder of UNESCO official documents, the importance of cooperation between the RSL and the Organization and other depository libraries.

Welcoming the participants of the round table, V.K. Egorov, Head of the UNESCO Chair of the RANEPA, Chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the UNESCO Chairs of the Russian Federation, noted that the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference is currently taking place in Paris, where a number of fundamentally significant documents are being considered and approved, starting from the organization’s development strategy for the medium term for the period 2022–2029 and ending with the ethics of the development of artificial intelligence, and the problems called “open science” in UNESCO documents.

He said that on one of his visits to Russia, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, when asked about the priorities in the activities of the organization, answered that it was, first of all, education, the Education for All program, including education throughout life, as well as a whole a number of fundamental programs related to the development and maintenance of the natural, social and human sciences, communication and information, culture, protection and preservation of the world cultural and documentary heritage. Egorov stressed the importance of the fact that the round table was held on the initiative and within the walls of the RSL – in the center of “the unity of educational activities, science and culture”.

The Head of the Library of the UN Information Center in Moscow, M.N. Shirshova, who drew the attention of the participants of the round table to the symbolism of the fact that it is being held by the staff of the Central Children’s Educational Society of the RSL, whose activities are aimed at promoting and popularizing knowledge in the context of educational and information programs developed by UNESCO.

From October 15 to December 15, 2021, the VIII All-Russian Scientific and Practical Internet Conference “Theory and practice of distance learning for students and youth with disabilities” was held in Kemerovo. The UNESCO Chair of the RANEPA took part in the conference. At the final stage of the conference, Professor of the UNESCO Department of the RANEPA, Doctor of Philosophy N.E. Sudakova on the topic “Inclusive resources of digital transformations: the view of UNESCO”.

Participants discussed the use of distance education technologies in inclusive education, issues of psychological and pedagogical support for students with disabilities and disabilities, the need to support their parents and teachers using information, computer and remote technologies; and many other important issues of education, upbringing and socialization of children, adolescents and young people with disabilities.

Vladimir Egorov, Chairman of the Coordinating Committee of the UNEXO Association, Head of the Department of UNESCO RANEPA sent a greeting to the conference participants, stressing that the theme chosen is the focus of UNESCO: “The organization’s activities are of paramount importance in meeting the educational needs of young people and the most vulnerable categories of society, including indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities and socially excluded groups. At the same time, the problems of overcoming digital inequality are highlighted – geographical, gender, age, the development of inclusive digital transformations and its ethical aspects, the need to develop critical thinking when working with digital technologies, and others. It is ultimately about prioritizing what is associated with modern challenges in the way of gaining new knowledge, digital skills and competencies”.
