IPACS Presidential Academy “Speaking Club”: Chinese direction

March 20, 2024

At the Institute of Public Administration and Civil Service of the Presidential Academy, a special project of the IPACS International Cooperation Department “Speaking Club” has been operating for a long time, which is being implemented in several language areas.

“Speaking Club” is an excellent platform for ambitious students who want to remove the language barrier and get practice communicating in a foreign language with native speakers, students who study at the IPACS Presidential Academy as part of academic mobility programs.

On March 6th, the first Chinese language “Speaking club” took place. During the meeting, the students were able to get to know each other and discuss each other’s hobbies and interests in Chinese. At the beginning of the meeting, each participant in the conversation club was given the opportunity to introduce themselves in a foreign language. After active discussions, students watched a video about various hobbies and learned new words using special cards. The meeting ended with a game to reinforce the pronunciation of numbers in Chinese.

Student participants shared their impressions.

Alexander Lyukmanov, a 2nd year student in the program “Analytics and Consulting in International Relations (with in-depth study of foreign languages)”, noted:

“I consider this format a good reason for practicing oral speech. The Chinese speaking club is an opportunity to exchange knowledge and improve communication skills in Chinese. In addition, for me, as a presenter, there is additional motivation to study the Chinese language and culture more deeply to share knowledge with the guys. A language club is informal communication in the target language, where students can help each other overcome the language barrier.”
