“School for Foreign Affairs Newbie”: for students of the IPACS Presidential Academy RANEPA hosted a lecture from the North-Western Institute of Civil Service RANEPA

On December 6th, at the Institute of Public Administration and Civil Service of the Presidential Academy RANEPA hosted a lecture by Natalya Mikheeva, candidate of political sciences, associate professor of International Relations Department of the SZIU RANEPA on the topic “Formation and development geo-economic systems”.

In her speech, the speaker spoke about the stages of development of world economic relations. The first stage lasted from the end of the 19th century until the First World War, the second – between The First and Second World Wars, from 1950 to the 1970s, the third stage passed, the fourth period preceded the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1980-1990, and the final period is the modern stage of formation of the world economy, which is still lasts.

During the lecture, Natalya Mikheeva gave detailed examples and discussed student participants provided cases from global economic practice, supporting all these illustrations: maps depicting the largest colonial systems, world trade routes at different stages, free trade zones in modern world.

Liliya Sokolova, a 2nd year student in the program “Politics and Law”, noted:

“The lecture on Geoeconomics, which I attended, was incredibly informative. Lecturer illustrated important concepts and theories related to the influence of geography on economics, through living examples from modern politics and business. The lecture inspired me to gain a deeper understanding of how geographic factors shape economic decisions in world stage. Thanks to this lecture, I learned a lot of new things and realized how important it is to take into account geography when analyzing economic processes”.
