“School for Foreign Affairs Newbie”: lecture for students of the IPACS Presidential Academy RANEPA from a foreign speaker

On December 7th, a lecture was held for students participating in the project “School for Foreign Affairs Newbie” IPACS Presidential Academy RANEPA on the topic “British India”, which was conducted by Professor Andrea Giannotti, expert of the Russian-Italian Center IPACS of the Presidential Academy RANEPA, Doctor of Political Sciences.

In his speech, the speaker told students about the concept of the “Great Game”, about the reasons of colonization of India, as well as about the main historical and geopolitical events, which took place from the end of the 16th century.

The lecturer noted:

“The Great Game is a global geopolitical process whose goal was to achieve dominance and influence in Central Asia. A huge effort was made number of strategic decisions by global empires in order to gain access to human resources, fertile lands and the most important transport and logistics ways of communication”.

Andrea Giannotti worked with participants in the “School for Foreign Affairs Newbie” project in interactive format, asked them questions in the field of political geography, general history, world economy. After the discussion, he answered all the students’ questions, and also recommended additional scientific literature on the topic.

Students shared their impressions of the last lecture.

Diana Kim, 1st year student of the “Effective Public Administration” program, said:

“Andrea Giannotti’s lecture is an excellent opportunity to gain new knowledge in the field of geopolitics. The speaker spoke in great detail about such a phenomenon as The Great Game, about the British colonization of Central Asia. Special interest presented that the lecturer gave specific examples of events, called historical personalities and exact dates, and also showed maps and atlases”.
